Biography:
Dong Zhuo was a pivotal figure in the late Eastern Han Dynasty of China, best known for his tyranny as he seized control of the imperial court. Originally a general stationed in the Liang province, Dong Zhuo was summoned to the capital, Luoyang, during the Yellow Turban Rebellion and later after the death of Emperor Ling.
Exploiting the power vacuum and the inexperience of the new Emperor Shao, Dong Zhuo quickly consolidated his power through military force and intimidation. He deposed Emperor Shao and installed the younger Emperor Xian, effectively becoming the de facto ruler of the Han Dynasty. His reign was marked by extreme cruelty, corruption, and abuse of power.
Dong Zhuo's actions sparked widespread outrage and fueled various warlords, including Yuan Shao and Cao Cao, to form a coalition against him. Faced with growing opposition, he burned Luoyang to the ground and relocated the capital to Chang'an. He was eventually assassinated by his adopted son, Lü Bu, in a plot orchestrated by Wang Yun. Despite his short reign of terror, Dong Zhuo's actions significantly weakened the Han Dynasty and paved the way for the Three Kingdoms period.
